How Much Does a 5 kVA Solar System Cost in Ilorin in 2026?

Solar energy Nigeria guide - panels at sunset

Quick answer: a whole-home evening solar system for a home in Ilorin costs about ₦1,318,000 in hardware. A true 5 kVA inverter, meaning one that can genuinely push 5 kW at once, is a bigger purchase: ₦2,588,000 with its battery already inside it, rising to about ₦4.8 million if you add a 10 kWh bank for extra storage.

Those two figures are the honest range, and the gap between them is the thing to understand. A lot of sellers quote the first number against the word “5 kVA” and put a 3 kW inverter in the box. Read the 5 kVA trap, just below, before you pay anyone.

Every naira in this article is a real price from our shop, not an estimate. Add your address and we will quote the full installed price.

The 5 kVA trap, in one paragraph

5 kVA is the size of your inverter. It is the ceiling on how much power the system can push at one moment. The mistake almost everyone makes is assuming a cheap inverter that is advertised as “5 kVA” really delivers 5 kVA. Read the inverter’s own rating: the Kartel hybrid we sell at ₦210,000 is a 1 to 3 kW, 12V unit. It is an excellent value inverter. It is not a 5 kVA inverter, and buying it for a 5 kVA job means your inverter is the bottleneck from day one.

So there are really two different purchases here, and they are not the same price:

  • Evening power for the whole house. Around ₦1.3 million. Lights, TV, fans, fridge, freezer, washing machine on a schedule. This is what most Ilorin homes actually need.
  • A true 5 kVA system. Around ₦2.6 million, because the inverter that matches the name costs ₦2,000,000 on its own and already contains a 12 kWh battery.

What does 5 kVA actually mean?

5 kVA is about 5 kW of power available at any single instant. A 5 kVA system is the usual choice for a 3-bedroom or 4-bedroom flat in Ilorin. It will run your lights, TV, fans, fridge, freezer, phone charging and a washing machine together. It will not run two air conditioners, a water heater and the fridge all at the same moment. Any installer who promises otherwise is either selling you a bigger number than you need, or a smaller inverter than you paid for.

Looking for a bigger number than anything on this page? The 5KW solar system cost breakdown covers the full 5 kW build: seven 700W panels, a hybrid inverter, a lithium bank and installation, priced line by line from the same shop. Read this page first if you are not sure which size you actually need — it is the cheaper mistake to make.

Four real builds, priced from our shop

These are hardware prices taken from the products we sell, checked on our live shop on 3 October 2026. Labour, cable, mounting, protection and delivery are quoted separately, because they depend on your roof and where you live.

Build 1 — Essential backup

₦764,000

Best for: a 1 to 3 kW home that needs the lights, the TV, the fans and the fridge to survive an outage. Nothing more.

What you get: backup only. You will be rationing, and the moment the fridge and the freezer start together this build is short.

Build 2 — Whole-home evening power

₦1,318,000

Best for: a 3 kW to 5 kW home that wants the whole house running at night. This is the build most Ilorin families should buy.

What you get: evening and night power without rationing the washing machine. It still tops up on grid during the day.

Build 3 — A true 5 kVA system

₦2,588,000

Best for: heavy loads that must run at the same time. This is the build that actually answers the question in the title.

  • Solar panels: 4 × 700W, which is 2.8 kW of nameplate, at ₦147,000 each.
  • Inverter and battery together: the Felicity 12 kWh All-in-One Inverter at ₦2,000,000. The 12 kWh lithium battery is already built inside it, so there is nothing extra to buy.

What you get: real 5 kVA at the inverter, nothing rationed. This is the cheapest build here that can honestly be called 5 kVA, which is why the headline number and this number are not the same.

Build 4 — Full comfort

₦4,782,000

Best for: a home that wants deep storage for long outages, or a small shop that loses trade every time the light goes.

What you get: almost no grid dependence. For a bigger home or a clinic, ask us about the Felicity 15 kWh at ₦4,700,000 or the 30 kWh Haisic at ₦3,800,000.

Most Ilorin homes should be looking at Build 2. ₦1,318,000 is the cheapest build that runs a whole house at night without anyone rationing the washing machine. Choose the third column only if you genuinely need heavy loads running simultaneously.

Where every naira goes

Solar panels

Our 700W Solar Panel is ₦147,000, down from ₦167,000. This is the one component where it is safe to compare freely, because panels from different makers are close to interchangeable if the warranty is real.

Four panels is 2.8 kW of nameplate capacity. In Ilorin, with roughly 5 peak sun hours a day, that is about 14 kWh of energy a day in good conditions. Real output is lower. Dust, heat and shading cut it. Plan on about 70 to 80 per cent of the nameplate number on a well-sited and clean array.

Batteries

This is where the money is, and this is where most people get cheated.

Our Cworth 12V Lithium Battery is ₦260,000. Our Sukam 12.8V is ₦265,000. Both are in stock today. We will not ship you a substitute from one maker for the other without asking you first.

A 12V 100Ah lithium battery holds about 1.28 kWh. Two of them is 2.56 kWh. That is enough to run a 500W load for about 4 hours at 80 per cent usable depth of discharge.

If you want real whole-home storage rather than backup, step up to the SMS 10 kWh at ₦1,900,000 or the Felicity 10 kWh at ₦2,000,000. Our Felicity 15 kWh is ₦4,700,000 for a larger home or a small shop.

Inverter

The Kartel Hybrid Inverter is ₦210,000. It is the value choice and it is honest about what it is: a 1 to 3 kW, 12V hybrid unit. Buy it for backup and evening power. Do not buy it for a 5 kVA load.

For a true 5 kVA build, the Felicity 12 kWh All-in-One at ₦2,000,000 is the unit that actually matches the name, and the battery is already inside it. For a shop or a clinic, our 30 kWh Haisic battery at ₦3,800,000 pairs with it.

Sizing it yourself, in four steps

Use this before you call anyone.

  1. Add your appliances in watts. Not in units of “things”. A 1.5 HP air conditioner is about 1,200W. A fridge with a compressor runs 100 to 200W most of the time and 400W when it starts.
  2. Double your total. Motorised appliances start in a surge. An inverter needs headroom for that.
  3. That number is your inverter size in watts. This is the step that decides whether ₦210,000 or ₦2,000,000 is the right inverter for you.
  4. Multiply your nightly kWh by 1.25. The 1.25 covers inverter losses and lets you keep usable depth of discharge at 80 per cent, which is what lithium datasheets actually guarantee.

Worked example for a 3-bedroom flat in Ilorin: lights 300W, TV 100W, two fans 150W, fridge 200W, freezer 200W, phone charging 50W. Total 1,000W running load. At night, with the fridge and freezer cycling, assume 800W average for 6 hours, about 4.8 kWh a night. × 1.25 = 6 kWh of battery. That is the SMS 10 kWh, not two 12V batteries.

What is not in these prices

Being straight about this saves an argument later.

  • Labour and installation. Usually the largest single line after the battery.
  • Mounting structure for the panels, if you have no roof space.
  • Cables, breakers, earthing and surge protection. Do not let anyone skip these to hit a price.
  • Delivery to your address in Ilorin or anywhere in Kwara State.
  • Any permit or approval your premises needs.

Send us your address and a rough list of what you want to run. We will send a written quote that names every line.

How to tell a real quote from a fake one

  • It names the inverter model and the kVA. If it says “a good inverter” with no model, it is not a quote.
  • It states the inverter’s own wattage, not just the system’s. “5 kVA system, 3 kW inverter” is a warning, not a feature.
  • It lists the battery capacity in Ah or kWh, not just “long life battery”.
  • It separates hardware from labour. A single lump sum hides a cheap inverter.
  • It states the panel warranty in years, and gives you the manufacturer’s name so you can check it independently.
  • It does not promise unlimited power. Anyone who promises all your appliances at once, all day, at under ₦1 million is wrong.

What happens next
